What I have done to ensure that my clients’ site are not affected by the coming November Google’s update

I have been extremely busy the last few weeks prepping my clients for the coming Google update. I have talked with other marketers and we conclude that it will be another Panda update. It might even happen on the 19th of October during their earnings call, or maybe soon after to keep Wall Street happy.

One thing is for certain, it will be a big update.

So what can you do to ensure your site gets a boost? Here are the seven steps I have taken with my sites so far:

1) Make sure that your Global Navigation Bar has links on it that are not just your properties. There should also be one link on there that goes back to your Home page or another place where people can easily get around your site. You need some form of navigational menus on every page on each of your sites, no exceptions! If you have done this step already, then be sure to check them for accuracy.

2) Make sure all internal links go back to the home page or somewhere where people can get around your site easily. I know you might think that your internal links are set up nicely, but trust me on this one. Go through every page on your sites and make sure the internal links go back to where people can easily get around the site, no exceptions! 3) Make sure that all of your Categories are filled out for each blog post or web page that you publish. You need to use keywords in these categories that will match what people are searching for so Google recognizes them as important topics.

4) Be sure to include social media sharing icons at the bottom of each of your pages so they can share them with their friends. If possible add an “Email” icon also so they can share it with their friends by emailing the link to them.

5) If you have old domains or blogs that are not getting much traffic, then 301 redirect all of the pages on those sites to your main site for each domain. Google does not like low-quality links and if you do this and still do other things in these next few steps, then it will help boost your rankings in the coming update.

6) Be sure to include social sharing buttons at the bottom of each page on your blog that allow people to easily share your content with their friends. For example, I use AddThis which has free options as well as affiliate programs for bloggers like me.

7) Make sure you have a logo, some nice graphics, and of course lots of good content. If your site is more of a blog make sure you post regularly, not once every 6 months. Google wants fresh content posted regularly, not old posts that are no longer relevant or are full of broken links. Your home page should be set up more like an “Intelligent Landing Page” where people get the value right away.

The last thing you want to do is send Google traffic there with one link telling them exactly where they need to go based on their search query and then when they get there, it sends them somewhere else because this address in the browser has changed to another location in another tab/window! One address in the browser window that sends them where they need to go with just one click of the mouse is all you want people to see when they search on Google.

You have spent countless hours writing all the content for your site, so don’t let it be ruined by some goofy redirect loop!

I hope these tips help you in winning in the new Google update and I will continue to post more information on what other marketers are saying about this update over the next few weeks. If you eliminate any low-quality links or pages on your site before November 19th, then you will be way ahead of most webmasters out there who are still scrambling to get their sites back into compliance.
